aewm++
Owner: Frank Hale
The aewm++ window manager is a fork of the popular minimal window manager aewm for the X Windows System. What makes it different is its codebase, feature set and focus. The name was created by using the first two letters in the word aesthetic, the wm is for window manager and the ++ is for its C++ code. The window decorations and feel try to encompass a pleasing effect and present an atmosphere of good taste. The overall focus is not on ambitious and off the wall features. What aewm++ provides is the necessary facilities to manage windows in a clear and concise manner while having somewhat of a clean functional interface. It will build on the feature set of aewm and try to become as modern as possible without sacrificing the clean simple interface that was inherited from aewm.

Arch Environmental/Geographical Information Systems Project
Owner: Philip Dillon-Thiselton
The main aim of the Arch Environmental/Geographical Information Systems (AEGIS) project is to create a live-cd distribution that provides a suite of the very latest, free, open-source GIS applications, sample data and other useful geographical and statistical tools. We are a sub project of Arch Linux and a sister project of the Archie live-cd.
There are several GIS live-cd distributions already in existence but they are all under-maintained and built on inflexible roots. One of the main strengths of this project is that is it is based on a highly configurable and customizable base system allowing amazing flexibility and adaptability.
The main aims of the project are:
* to increase awareness of and accessibility to Open-Source GIS tools
* to encourage interaction, participation and collaboration between open-source GIS users and developers, especially between those in developed and less-developed countries.
* to contribute to the growth of Arch Linux and it's derivatives
The main objectives of the project are:
* to provide a repository of Arch Linux compatible binaries for the latest open-source GIS tools
* to provide a repository of relevant sample data, documents and tutorials and a mechanism for their retrieval and installation
* to provide ISO releases of a live-cd distribution based on the Archie live-cd via ftp and bittorrent
* to provide CVS access for integration into the Arch Build System (ABS)
* to provide an environment for interaction between open-source GIS users and developers
* to encourage the development and sharing of relevant documentation and datasets

Portmanager's purpose is to keep a FreeBSD user's
installed software current, and reduces the update
procedure to two steps:
1. Update ports tree from cvs
2. Run portmanager
Portmanager looks for a difference between what
is available in the ports tree and what is installed. If both are not the same portmanager
upgrades the installed software, upgrading each program in the proper order so that dependent
programs are upgraded first, and programs that
use the dependent programs are upgraded next.
There is one other program in FreeBSD's port tree
who's purpose is similar to portmanager, it is called portupgrade. Portmanager is designed to
cover portupgrade's limitations, such as portupgrade requires Ruby for its data base support and is very slow, portmanager's data base
is handled internally and is quite fast.
Portupgrade requires an external INDEX file be maintained of all ports. Maintaining this file
causes users needless stress when the file
can neither be built nor retrieved. Portmanager
has no need for this file so eleminates this line of complaints from FreeBSD users.
When portupgrade can not determine the proper
way to upgrade a software package, it modify's
the packages's registry and forces installation
anyways. Portmanager completely respects the registry, never modifies it and will simply
notify the user if a package cannot properly be
upgraded.

Rox OS
Owner: Guido Schimmels
Rox OS is a new operating system aimed at the desktop user. Rox is a user centric OS that utilizes the Linux Kernel , GNU tools, and Rox Filer. The idea of Rox OS comes from the work done on Rox filer. Rox stands for Risc on X. Rox is a desktop environment based on ideas from Risc OS. With Rox OS we plan on taking some of the ideas of Rox and expanding on them. Instead of hiding complexity through abstraction we feel it better to keep things simple to begin with. Skolbiblioteksportal
Owner: Kim Bruun
F.eks. support til IT,
hjemmesidebygning.

The Open Source Software CD
Owner: Philip M. White
(More detail is in the project proposal e-mail.)
This project is a CD image that contains a collection of high-quality open-source software. The goal is to be publically distributed in order to promote open source to "regular" people, as well as to be a convenient one-stop-shop repository for those who regularly use open-source software and do not want to download a dozen packages from different places.
It is updated monthly with the latest versions of all software, and new software is added regularly based on CD users' e-mails and my own discoveries.
TheOpenCD
Owner: Henrik Nilsen Omma
The OpenCD is a collection of high-quality Open Source Software. All of the programs on the disc run under Windows; the disc is intended to be an Open Source showcase. New users can try out Open Source software in the comfort of their own, familiar operating system, rather than having to take the drastic step of reformatting their hard drive to install Linux.
Currently, the disc is aimed solidly at non-techies. The primary audience is expected to consist mostly of people who use computers regularly for their work, but are not power users. This might be, for example, Jane from Accounting, who spends a lot of time working on spreadsheets and checking her email. She can find her way around the computer without too much trouble, but wouldn't know a kernel from a TCP/IP stack. By showing the benefits of Open Source Software to users such as these, we hope to encourage its adoption -- in the workplace, in schools, and by individuals.
The OpenCD features a CD browser application that allows for easy browsing of the programs on the CD. It also includes a selection of essays about Open Source philosophy, and links to other programs that might be of interest.

TransTitanium
Owner: Kevin P. Corrigan
The name of my project is called "TransTitanium." Basically, it's a new software application that incorporates a new "flavor" of FTP technology that I have been working on for quite some time. It uses proprietary compression technologies developed by my team, which allows new methods of transferring files more quickly, than ordinary FTP protocols allow. Regardless of the connection, our tests have shown that the average increase in transfer speed compared to any ordinary FTP technology is over 92%. We are currently working hard to develop backwards compatibility with regular FTP technologies, so that anyone using the "traditional" FTP protocol can experience some of this new technology, without the need to upgrade any software. Right now, we are only developing a Linux version, but in the future, we hope to port this software to Windows so more people can make use of it. Besides researching about this new "protocol," we are also implementing more standard protocols into our software, (such as HTTP) so that the users of this software can have a plethora of transfer options to choose from such as FXP, HTTP to FTP, etc.

WING IP Simulator
Owner: Martijn Kuipers
considerably increased in the last years.
Its advantages are evident: it is much faster and often easier to
simulate a system in software than to
build test platforms with real devices. This specially applies to
network simulators, where the amount
of devices and possible protocols and mechanisms is very high.
Under this perspective, the WINGlab decided to focus its attention on
simulating several aspects
connected with IP networks, such as mobility schemes (Mobile IP),
routing/routing discovery routines
(Adhoc routing protocols), wireless links (Bluetooth, IEEE802.11), QoS
(Quality of Service) mechanisms
(Diffserv) and Medium Access Protocols.
The first step was to search for a simulator readily available. The
result was that there was no
simulator which fulfilled the WINGlab's objectives. Thus the idea of
building a new IP network simulator
was born. This simulator should allow full understanding of the
framework and protocols implemented,
should be easy to extend and would serve as tool to aid in education. It
was given the name of
WING IP Simulator, or WIP-Sim.
